About the HIF
The Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) is a non-profit grant making facility supporting organisations and individuals to identify, nurture and share innovative and scalable solutions to the most pressing challenges facing effective humanitarian assistance.
About the Funding Committee
The HIF Funding Committee is the formal assessment and approval body for the funding facilities provided by the HIF. The Committee members represent world leading expertise from the humanitarian and innovation disciplines.
About the Role
The Funding Committee Chairperson serves a crucial role facilitating the internal workings of the fund. With formal Committee meetings twice a year and ongoing responsibilities to provide effective decision making on all HIF funding decisions the Chairperson will lead the Committee members through the formal proposal review processes for each funding facility developed by the HIF and will be responsible for ensuring that a high level of scrutiny and fairness is achieved in all decisions.
About the candidate
We are looking for candidates with significant first-hand experience and understanding of operational humanitarian practice and a proven academic background.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate:
•Commitment to rigour and an appreciation of the challenges of achieving high quality research outputs in operational humanitarian research
•Strong understanding of innovation and innovation processes, ideally in a humanitarian setting
•Understanding of key current humanitarian policy and practice, and an appreciation for the challenges facing the system in the coming years.
•Experience of participating in funding committees, ideally in an innovation or academic research domain
•Ability to chair meetings in a highly effective manner, working in a balanced way to agreement and clear actions
•Understanding of risk management in humanitarian settings
•Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

About the Appointment Process
The Funding Committee Chair is appointed by the Independent HIF Board and is expected to serve between 3-5 years of service, although the contract will be renewed on a yearly basis.
