Shaping the future: Our strategy for research and innovation in humanitarian response.
MEDBOX is gaining momentum. Aside from initiating innovative checklists and survey tools, over 1000 documents, of relevance for humanitarian assistance, have now been uploaded to MEDBOX’s open source, online library. During a recent field trip to the Syrian border in Turkey, MEDBOX had been promoted to international and Turkish NGOs working on refugee health. In addition, MEDOX was presented during the Annual Congress of the German Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health in during March 2014.
Following acute events in humanitarian assistance, MEDBOX was able to react quickly to establish toolboxes, such as that for the Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. MEDBOX’s latest toolbox is just a few days old. The dramatic Ebola outbreak in West Africa has spread from Guinea to Liberia. Specialised medical teams from different organisations and local governments are currently working to control the dangerous epidemic in the affected areas. To aid these efforts, MEDBOX has generated an EBOLA TOOLBOX comprising of disease-specific documents to ease access for teams on the ground. The EBOLA TOOLBOX is available at: http://www.medbox.org/ebola-toolbox/listing.
Furthermore, MEDBOX has created the most comprehensive CHOLERA TOOLBOX available online!
Whilst the development phase is ongoing, MEDBOX thrives to increase partnerships and collaboration to complete its library. Are you inspired to support quality assurance and accountability of health care in humanitarian contexts? You can do this by supporting the project with online resources such as treatment guides, general or country-specific IEC or health education materials, posters, videos, e-books, power point presentations etc. Or just simply place a link toMEDBOX to share with others. MEDBOX (www.medbox.org) is a new and innovative free-of-charge online library aimed at improving the quality of health care in humanitarian action, worldwide. Based on the assumption that humanitarian health workers around the world can act effectively if they have access to the necessary tools, MEDBOX collates the increasing number of professional guidelines, textbooks and practical documents on health action available online and brings these into the hands of aid workers: when they need it, where they need it.
