New-look KnowledgePoint goes live!

The new look KnowledgePoint platform went live in January and already it’s attracting lots of attention! The platform gives fast and free technical advice to humanitarian workers and since its launch has gained over 80,000 users across 183 countries.

The recent KnowledgePoint revamp has allowed us to make several important changes to the platform, resulting in improved user experience, increased data security, and bringing an innovative use of gaming technology to the platform.

Things we’ve changed and improved include:

• Optimisation for mobile phone use: The platform is now accessible even in low-bandwith field conditions.
• Updated login: Users can now use social media platforms to sign-up and login, making the process quicker and more accessible.
• Improved design: Users benefit from an improved personal profile space which includes the option to see all of the questions they have posted and answered, as well as other questions they might be able to answer.
• Badges: Users can now earn badges by responding to questions quickly, and providing answers that are highly rated by other users.
• Groups: KnowledgePoint groups give users with common interests – such as working for the same organisation or project – a private and customisable space to share knowledge.

KnowledgePoint is supported by a network of more than 150 technical experts answering questions on topics ranging from public health to security and logistics. You can read the experience of a civil engineer who used KnowledgePoint to support a water supply project in Nepal on our website here.

KnowledgePoint continues to provide free, fast and accessible information for aid workers in the field. The upgraded platform means that it is now accessible in low-bandwith conditions, making it a valuable resource for humanitarian workers in the field. Going forward, the KnowledgePoint team are continuing to look for other ways to improve the platform and would be glad to hear any suggestions you have. We are talking with several organisations about establishing dedicated Groups for their projects.
