Shaping the future: Our strategy for research and innovation in humanitarian response.

A global organisation that finds solutions to complex humanitarian problems through research and innovation..
Our purpose is clear: we work in partnership with a global community of humanitarian actors, researchers and innovators to improve the quality of humanitarian action and deliver better outcomes for people affected by crises.
We empower the humanitarian community. Find out how we can support you...

WHAT IS THE HUMANITARIAN NEED?

The humanitarian innovation ecosystem is immature. Innovation often occurs within agencies, is rarely supported in the early days of a response, and is not scaled up or scaled out. This project will address the lack of a standardised process for innovation during an emergency response by embedding it as an activity during the response and providing a shared space that enables demand-led change at field level while the response is ongoing.

WHAT IS THE INNOVATIVE SOLUTION?

To develop a CRIL that will be a transformative catalyst that substantially improves humanitarian responses through

  1. the development and delivery of effective new products, processes, services and models;
  2. the creation of meaningful partnerships;
  3. the enhancement of evidence, learning and capacity building focused on innovation.

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES?

  • Increased humanitarian effectiveness through the development of more innovative products, services, and processes.
  • A CRIL that is ready to deploy during a level 3 response with services such as mentoring and funding access, events and training, marketplace of previous innovation successes, innovation resources and tools, evidence support, creative space focused on emergency innovation, and innovation surge capacity.
